The HDD is replaced with a new one, still the same problem.
SATA cable replaced, still the same problem. Connected the HDD to another SATA-connetor on the motherboard, runs fine, at least for a couple of hours ![]() |

I also ran a xubuntu 16.04 LTS and it upgraded itself to the latest 20.04 LTS. There was nothing to do except to click yes to update when it asked. |

Hello friends,
it is good, that many tried to help yangalf, but it seems that we did not find a real solution. Maybe if we had a separate forum for linux problems, and one for windows problems, more of us would find yangalfs post, and a real solution would be found. A separate forum for Linux problem is not a real gruarantee for finding a solution, but I could improve visibility of problem posts So: A separate forum for LInux problems, please. Do you agree? Thanks Martin |

Disagree. I do both and the problem here is in the wrong forum. Maybe hardware or Boinc or Website. I would not have come to this forum except I that started a thread "Did we help" and then saw disc activity and got curious.
----------------------------------------Nothing to do with Covid-19 project as such. The title is disk activity. We forgot to ask what else this machine is doing other than crunching WCG. Run sensors in the terminal emulator to see if the CPU is running hot. This sounds like a desktop made for general use and you are now pushing it to the max. Grabbing at straws here. My Ubuntu computer still works fine after switching to another SATA-port on the motherboard.
----------------------------------------Problem solved When I detected the problem was disc related, I ran the command " iotop --accumulated". (Shows which processes is writing or reading to/from disc and how much) The tasks who had most disc activity was the Covid-19 project tasks. I'm also running other projects (tasks) at the same time but they were not read or write intensive. Only Covid-19-tasks were reading and writing a lot. That's why I decided to post my question here, right or wrong. My computer runs WCG, nothing more and it is built in a miditower case with a few fans. CPU temperature is around 55 degrees Celsius at full load. I'm happy for Your answers and ideas since my problem is solved. Thanks, Yamgalf [Edit 1 times, last edit by Yamgalf at Nov 13, 2020 1:33:38 PM] |
