Server updates and changes

Good evening,

Starting tomorrow and for the next week, we are going to be doing some server changes and updates. Some of this involves the removal of old storage and will require server reboots. We are going to attempt to minimize the outages to the members to less than 5 minutes each. We appreciate your patience with us during this time.

If you have any questions about this, please post them here and I will attempt to answer them.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

I think Saturday. It's still Saturday in Japan.

At least one in Japan lacks humor.

Re: Server updates and changes

Good morning guys. Sorry about being vague...but I'm in Texas if that helps those in the future. But we have started the changes and we are waiting for one of the servers to be turned back over to us. Sorry about the confusion on days :)

Re: Server updates and changes

Thanks for letting us know, are you able to elaborate on the server/storage upgrades e.g. are you changing to SSD's (solid state drives) & the size old drives of verse new drives & what server hardware is changing? Thanks for working on the weekend. All the best with the upgrade

Re: Server updates and changes

I'm not sure if this is related to your maintenance, but a number of machines in my fleet are hung up on downloading new work units.

The BOINC client log reports a "transient HTTP error", and when I update the project, I receive the log message: "Not requesting tasks: some download is stalled".

I can clear the stalled downloads by restarting the BOINC client service, but as I'm sure you can imagine, having clients stall and run out of work until someone manually restarts it is not ideal.

Re: Server updates and changes

Looks like whatever was causing the downloads to stall has cleared up on its own. smile
