Question on credit claimed/granted.

Hello Admin,

Just joined smash childhood cancer project today. Running on my new setup with ryzen 3950x with ubuntu 18.04 and I notice that the last 100 tasks that I've completed earned me a fix credit of 50.6. Seems to earn the same credit no matter what the cpu run time. Just want to confirm if this project has a fixed credit score. Other than those task with replication of 2 which seems to average the credits from the other PC, the rest is fixed at 50.6 points. Thanks.

Here are the links to some of the completed tasks:

Re: Question on credit claimed/granted.

Interesting. I am also running a 3950x, on windows 10 though. Points are all different ranging from about 32 to 82 with most in the 50ish range for SCC.

Re: Question on credit claimed/granted.

The averaging when replication 2 is normal. Other than that, your machine is somehow deemed an outlier in computing time to claim ratio, so it gets a fixed credit (but how that was determined is unknown to me). I'd say 50 credit (350 WCG points), is not shabby at all, the equivalent on some your jobs of 84 per hour.

Re: Question on credit claimed/granted.

Not too sure what you meant by outlier but if you meant fast CPU (it finishes the task very quickly), yes the 3950x is quite fast with large L3 cache memory. Wait till the Ryzen 5900x comes out soon. It seems that outlier or fast CPUs will be rewarded with a fixed credit which I think is a bit odd.

Re: Question on credit claimed/granted.

@hnks

I don't have an explanation for this but I can add some comparative data which may or may not help someone to spot what's going on. It tends to confirm FlynRyan's Windows-based observations.

I've got several machines on Ubuntu 18.04, including a Ryzen 3700; my 3700 seems to claim about 100 BOINC credits per CPU hour for SCC1 jobs, varying with job complexity. A few samples...

Now, I reckon my system is requesting credit based on the amount of time spent (as it should!); my other systems (all Intel, all less "powerful") do the same. If I don't have a wingman, I get what my system asked for (as do you, it would appear!)...

Yours, however, looks as if it is asking for credit based on the WCG original estimate of how long the job should take (or on how long a previous job took!), but I'm not sure how that might happen! So I'm trying to think of "variables"...

What BOINC client are you running, and do you take any other WCG projects (and, if so, do they show the same claim behaviour?)? Do you use an account manager (not that that should make any difference, I'd hope)?

My Ryzen is running BOINC on client 7.9.3; my other XUbuntu 18.04 machines are on 7.14.2. (I have a single machine on 20.04 with client 7.16.6, and that claims "properly" as well...)

So I can't tell you why it's doing what it's doing, but I think I can confirm that it isn't to do with how powerful one's machine might be! Hopefully, someone will turn up with an answer - I'd like to know why it happens too!...

Cheers - Al.

Re: Question on credit claimed/granted.

What is your p_fpops and p_iops in boinc/client_state.xml ?
Use BOINC run CPU benchmarks and check event log for new benchmark numbers, will this fix problem with claimed credit?

Windows 10, Ryzen 7 2700x, with a change in edit power plan, maximum processor state, can give me wrong claimed credits. I use BOINC run CPU benchmark to fix it. Maximum processor state limit CPU frequently for less watts and less heat. Mine is 3917484230 fpop, and 14748701985 iops, at 3.18 GHz.
