should I bother attempting to run WCG on a tablet PC with this CPU?

The information on Intel's site

4 GB of RAM, 4 core - 3 years old. I have no use for it rn, so I could use your input. Thoughts?

I surely would use such a tablet for WCG.
I've such a kind of 2-in-1 tablet with even lower specs: Intel Atom CPU Z3735F @ 1.33GHz with
2GB RAM and a 24 GB disk with Windows 10 32bit as the operating system.
When running 4 OPN1-tasks concurrently, they need on average 10.5 hours.

Crystal Pellet - aha, yeah. I got ripped off when I was 14, and have had it ever since. It'll be hard to figure out how to run it without destroying the battery for good, but I'll make it work.
Better to put it to use than let it sit and rot.

Thanks for the advice. I'll begin crunching immediately.

Start slowly using only one thread and monitor temperatures. Increase the number of threads if you are happy with the temperature.
Can Tthrottle work on atom chip?

Re: should I bother attempting to run WCG on a tablet PC with this CPU?

ca- thanks for the reminder about temperature. I installed Core Temp and enabled overheat protection. The temp max is 105 celsius - running 4 tasks, it doesn't break 60.

Thanks for the concern, but thankfully this chip is far more durable than I thought. Pulling only 0.3 Ws, vs my laptop's 5Ws, for running 4 tasks - and it's even clocked faster than my laptop.

Just a funny little tidbit, which I find hilarious.

Anyway - point is - thank you, I will monitor its temperatures closely. If I find any reason for concern, I'll reduce it down to 2 core/thread usage so it is usable if I ever need it, or so it can crunch for BOINC for years to come. A small impact, but brings my fleet of devices with BOINC running, to 7. All running various WCG tasks! :D

Re: should I bother attempting to run WCG on a tablet PC with this CPU?

The Intel Atom Z3740 in my sig has been crunching almost non-stop, 24/7, for the past 3 years or so. Temperatures are barely above 50ยบ Celsius, and I think even the battery isn't that damaged.

I use it for BOINC since it's useless for anything else as the touchscreen doesn't work any more.

Runs constantly at boost speed, 1.83 or 1.86 GHz.

Re: should I bother attempting to run WCG on a tablet PC with this CPU?

I have an old Thinkpad 8 with these specs: atom z3770 @ 1.46ghz, 2gb ram, Windows 8.1, 64gb storage (but only about 21gb free after BOINC is running). One of the few PCs where I find it too much effort to try putting Linux on it, so I just left it on Windows for now.

Been running all 4 cores since OPN started and no issues so far. Recent tasks take between 13 to 17 CPU hours.
