Errors-Timing out

My 8 core has been happily crunching away on MCM with results either being pending or valid.
I don't micromanage & let Boinc do what it is supposed to do.
Unfortunately, just checking on tasks running & found a load missing.
Checking via results status found many with errors & a fair amount with no reply.
Can understand the no replies as looking at them, see that they timed out. Can't understand how this happened as until now, Boinc only downloaded enough to meet deadlines.
Any help/advice would be appreciated As I want tasks on my rigs to complete not waste time & power.
Rechecking, see that I am now running just 6 of which 3 will complete within deadline but the remaining 3 will definitely time out so aborted them.

Re: Errors-Timing out

Since you do not micromanage the system, my suggestion is to reboot the system which should set any system setting back to normal. If you are running Windows, there have been reports in the past of memory leaks which cause constipation in the system when memory from finished jobs does not get properly freed when the task finishes, thus leading to memory bloat.
If you could send a listing of recent messages that would also be helpful.
Cheers

07/08/2020 21:08:45 | World Community Grid | Aborting task MCM1_0165397_1582_1; not started and deadline has passed
X that by 30. The 11 no reply answers itself.
Did ask that question on the Boinc dev board Q&A.
Along with your answer & their one could be the problem as my cache was 6 days & 0.01 additional.
Have reduced it to 4 & rather than get 1 out 1 in, got a whole bunch of tasks. Will keep an eye on them all the same.

Re: Errors-Timing out

Since those errors & no replies, rig downloaded tasks on 7th Aug. 145 & 38 @20:45 UTC. Looking at BM the next day, saw what I thought were way too many tasks. Checking via event log saw that prior to those downloads, it had downloaded 134 at 20:43 UTC.

That's a total of 317 tasks & felt pretty certain that a fair number will time out (just my perception). With 29 remaining, 21 waiting, 8 crunching, 4 would have no trouble meeting the deadline with (what looked like) 4 completing shortly past their deadlines. Surprisingly, they completed within 2 minutes before the deadline. I actually saw 13 of the remaining get aborted, not started but the remaining 8 had already started crunching, so:
1: do I let them crunch or abort them?
2: any advice as to how to avoid this happening again?

Have not had any issues on any rig with OPN or MIPS.

I guess you could just let them run.
MCM has been having pretty short runtimes, from my experience. Today in fact, I noticed I had about 4 more MCM tasks than usual. So whatever cache you had set may be retrieving more MCM because the tasks are shorter while nothing changed with OPN and MIP.

You could try reducing the cache.

cool Re: Errors-Timing out

Thanks, instead of having 6 + 0.01, I now have it at 1 & 0. Only downloaded 60 or so, good enough for me.
