I am retired (but not from teaching), but do substitute teach and volunteer in middle school grades 6-8, mostly math classes. I am not sure about just how the school year will happen this year. There has been a shortage of substitute teachers in the past and it remains to be seen this year just how substitute teachers will be utilized. I am lucky in that I do not need the money from this endeavor, but do it because I feel the students need a competent person there when their regular teacher is unavailable. I have the confidence of the regular teachers that the lesson to be presented when they are not there will be presented competently so there is no loss of continuity of the pupils studies.
I am in an enhanced risk group due to age, but would still feel confident with in person classes provided safety protocols are in place and enforced by the school.
There will be school board meeting this week which I will attend to see what they have in mind. It should be interesting.

Every day I think of the people who are impacted. For some reason I worry more about the cooks and waitresses in restaurants, since they may not have much of an economic cushion, and don't know if their jobs will come back or not. I am conveniently very retired, and spend my time as I usually do, upgrading my PCs. I just can't travel now beyond day trips. I am very lucky. Good luck to all.
