In other words, are there estimates of:
the number of computers running WCGrid / estimated number of computers that could potentially run WCGrid? |

Below 1%. I know that much.
----------------------------------------If you factor in mobile phones, far less than 0.1%. ![]() |

In other words, are there estimates of: the number of computers running WCGrid / estimated number of computers that could potentially run WCGrid? There a no estimates, there are accurate [internal] statistics of hosts returning and having validated results daily. As with 'predictor of the day', if hosts are hidden, or more precisely, if a volunteer chooses not to show her/his contribution, like me, then those are not included to the public stats such as these https://www.boincstats.com/stats/15/project/detail |

The opn1 run time is 300 years per day, so, say, 100,000 threads running opn1. The total run time of all projects is 600 years per day (200,000 threads)
----------------------------------------Most Western nations would probably have 10s of millions of devices, so, say, 100 million threads. Multiply that by, say, 50 to get the total threads worldwide. That would be 5 billion threads available. The result would be one in 50,000 threads on the opn1, full time equivalent. (1 in 25,000 on WCG) I have ignored business computers and supercomputers. I could be out substantially, but I think you get the drift. Any other estimates? Another way to look at it is that we can return more WUs each day than they create.

Yet another is that WCG is funded by IBM and I am sure that their good intentions have a finite limit.
