Please post the event log content. You can get it by opening the BOINC Manager, hit tools and select event log.

Mine is remaining at 'Ready to report' after uploading so every time I have to update the project to make it report to the server.

No you don't, you just don't have the patience to let the client report in combination with another scheduler activity such as a work fetch, but one will always be done no later than 24 hours after the oldest "Ready to Report" in the queue.
There's a little known way to shorten that automation to 2:01 minutes at most (the forced WCG backoff time), which is adding a report_results_immediately line to the cc_config.xml file which was originally designed for those that reimage frequently ensuring all is reported when the machine goes down. Nowadays if you use the BOINC Scheduler and set it to go offline just for 1 minutes before 00:06 UTC, everything will report immediately from 30 minutes before the offline time begins i.e. if offline starts at 00:05 UTC and a task finishes 00:04 UTC, the reporting will be forced automatically. This ensures that all is reported before the midnight stats begin. Same works for those who only crunch during the night on e.g. office machines, say from 18:00 to 08:00, forced automated reporting would start at 07:30 FYI |
