Well, I'm confused. I want to restrict WCG to run on my laptop only when work is not available for other projects. So, I edited the "work" device profile, set project weight to zero, linked the profile and laptop, and then allowed new tasks in BOINC Manager. Now there are over twenty WCG tasks waiting to run even though there are several other work units from other projects, both in progress and ready to start. The Resource Share in BOINC Manager reset to zero as expected. What went wrong?

Resource Share = how it runs tasks that it receives. It doesn't dictate what tasks you get, it dictates which order they are prioritized.
----------------------------------------To restrict WCG in that way, you may need to manually hit "no new tasks" and re-enable tasks whenever your other projects have a WU shortage. There's probably more ways, clever ways - but that's what I know. Hopefully other crunchers have more tips ;p ![]() |

What went wrong? The first time after you changed the profile and you hit update the changement was not known by your client,so it asked work with the old resource share setting. In future: Set 'No new work' first and then hit update project. Thereafter allow new work again. |

The answer by CP is correct for why Ardis still got work in the first instance. |
