While the OPN people are complaining about the large number of PV's, I looked at my MCMs.
----------------------------------------I run six at a time on an i7-4771 (Win7 64-bit), and have 68 PV (and twice as many valid), with no invalid or errors. I don't know if this is a new phenomenon, but does not seem right to me. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Jim1348 at Jun 21, 2020 8:20:54 PM] |

I have 13 pages of valid MCM tasks and 3 pages of MCM tasks in PV state.
----------------------------------------I only began running MCM again last Friday but I think it looks okay. AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

Thanks. A 50% backlog may be reasonable. I will let it go on, unless they start growing much beyond that.

In other words - is it a volunteer problem, or a WCG problem? Because I don't know what you could expect WCG to do besides shorten the MCM deadlines. |

They are:
Minimum Quorum: 2 Replication: 2 The oldest were sent out on June 13, but they returned with errors or no reply. So I suppose that is what you could expect. |

yeah - I understand the frustration, I certainly experience it too, to a lesser extent. However - it's up to the whims of volunteers - there's not much the team can do beyond adjusting deadlines, which could hurt the project. It all depends on the project needs.
----------------------------------------I find most of my PV are always Android devices - but that's because WUs run so much longer on android devices due to lack of CPU power, or lack of cooling - or both in some cases. I agree that it's too much - but it's not under your control, nor the WCG team. It's all on volunteers - if their devices are configured in a way that generates errors - and if they're crunching in a way that doesn't harm the grid through delaying results. Back in May - I had a WU that took almost a month to Validate because of so many aborted/no replies. |

All true enough, and I normally don't worry about it, or even notice. But other things being equal, I would prefer projects that don't require validation at all, for maximum efficiency. But if the scientists need it, we do it. Thanks.

mhm. We can only trust that the minimum quorum is there for a good scientific or logistical reason.
----------------------------------------I'm sure if we searched the forums hard enough we could find some explanation - I'll take a quick look rn. If I find anything, I'll edit this comment. [Edit 1 times, last edit by yoerik at Jun 21, 2020 11:44:16 PM] |

OPN samples the work from each machine. If it is OK, your machine is marked as "trusted". That eliminates the necessity for validation for a while, though they check it again periodically.
https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=630788 That would be a big help, if they could do that here. |

I spent 20 minutes searching the MCM forums - it seems like the quorum 2 has been here since it started. I haven't been able to find explicit rational as to why it's 2 for everyone - but the admins including uplinger made it clear in the posts I found discussing quorum, that it was necessary. The why - they'll need to reveal. |
