Saw the article on the Raspberry Foundation site yesterday and set up boinc on my 2 pi 3B+ that are running pihole, Have limited the pi temperature to 60 Centigrade - so only running about 50 % CPU - just as an experiment. Monitoring writes to the SD card shows a very significantly increase, which is cause for concern. Will probably terminate boinc when the current WUS have completed...

I run 3 threads on my RPi 3B+ keeping the cores between 60°C and 65°C. Over 65°C, the temperature throttling is noticeable.
----------------------------------------I cool the RPi "semi-actively". I use the standard RPi case, remove one side plate and the roof plate. I put the RPi in a very unconventional way in front of the case ventilator of a tower PC. The result is very efficient, since the PC inlet airflow (fresh air) go through the RPi before entering into the PC. The second RPi is put in the same way at the extracting ventialtor (warm air) of the same PC. Finally this solution does not cost anything and is really efficient: the both RPi have more or less the same core temperature and we currently have (a not too hot) Summer. Yves |

Neat... Also found that not using any USB device and turning HDMI off makes quite a difference. Have heatsinks on order from eBay - and considering drilling a pattern of holes top and bottom of the standard Pi cases to add convection.

I saw that article, and have decided to add 24 Raspberry Pi's (and a couple old Mac minis) to the mix. So far so good, though my home office is nice and toasty warm! It's already summer here. These are all 3b+ or 4b Pi's. Would allocating more memory (rasps-config -> Advanced -> Memory Split ) to GPU make a difference? All except 2 are at the default 64, but I am testing 2 with 256 for the GPU just to see what happens...
