Re: Any tales from the pandemic?

We are back a partial lockdown here in Scotland. We are not allowed to visit inside anyones home unless you are caring for an elderly or sick neighbour.

Re: Any tales from the pandemic?

All it takes is some commitment to not act stupid. Wear the frippin mask, wash your hands, keep respectable distance if you can't. Zealots everywhere, for months someone public went on and on about it being a hoax. He was hospitalized some 2 weeks ago and died of covid-19 on Tuesday. Arguments, just walk away, had one last week with an (intoxicated) person who refused to maintain distance even after several requests while I sitting on a terrace drinking a beer. Gulped it down and went. Such is life. I'll not get a vaccine until trials are proven solid and then I'll wait a bit more. Even the CDC director said that masks would at the present state protect better than any iffy vaccine and hope it takes and works. I'm wary of the early vaccine takers and then go around dropping all other measures... the dice continue to roll, so I'm stacking the deck in my favour.

Pollings show, many of those who have acquaintances, relations or know of someone who's been seriously ill or died of covid-19, see it as their wakeup call and start acting more responsible. Over 200,000 fatalities now in the US alone of the disease and a big drop in flu death cases at the same time... because of the personal safety measures. One city with a low covid incidence saw a drop in mortality of 10%.... just saying.

Yep, with you all the way. It's incredible how many people say it limits their freedom rights or it's a conspiracy... unbelievable. It just common sense to take precautions (as somebody stated here in the forums, common sense apparently isn't that common).

CJSL
Crunching with all the precautions...

Re: Any tales from the pandemic?

What have you and/or your families been doing to help in the crisis, apart from crunching?

I arrived in Cusco Peru on my motorbike back in January 2020. I had been riding around South America, coming and going in huge loops centered in Cusco, since 2011. But in January this year it was really the end, as I had visited every country in South America, including Venezuela and the Guyanas.
Then, just as I was thinking "I'll wait a bit longer before buying an airfare home, these fares are going to keep dropping" the virus struck and Peru has been in lockdown ever since (though next week they are opening up again). Underterred, in my hostel room, set up my laptop and started editing the videos I shot enroute, which, along with my smartphones and tablets, kept my unheated room warm during the southern winter here... and as you will see from the following video (at 2:38), I was able to crunch for WCG even while travelling down the Amazon river! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWup8sC4-HY&feature=youtu.be&t=158
