I would be glad to participate in the project, but my computer shuts down after 15 minutes of calculation because of processor overheat. It would be great if there was a feature in the agent allowing making several minutes' breaks for the processor to cool. It will help to involve more users who own systems with poor cooling, where the processor doesn't shut down because of large idle times.

I had the same problem. Earlier this month I switched computer cases. I bought a Cooler Master Centurian 5 computer case. It has very good airflow and has good astetic styling. It has a black metal mesh front with an 80mm intake front fan and a 120mm back exhaust fan. Along with a large Pentium 4 heat sink and cooling fan my CPU tempature dropped from about 128 - 139F to about 95 -107F. I just saw one sold on Ebay for about $45 US.

You can also force WCG to only use a certain amount of cpu %. Try the search function of the forum.

Well, I'm runnig a notebook PC, so I cannot make any changes to the cooling system. But it seems I've found the solution. It is limiting the CPU usage. How to make it is described here:
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2683 But it still would be great if this feature was introduced to the agent itself in order less experiensed users could change the usage of CPU and not to leave the project disappointed. |

Ok, I did not know you were using a laptop. Throttling down your CPU is one way of preventing overheating. Also, I have heard of cooling devices you can place your laptop into to cool it down. An internet and Ebay search might provide more information on this.

I find a fan aimed at the base of the laptop can work wonders - reduce 5*C from the temp of the chip and the hard disk.
