Chromebooks

Has anyone had success getting a Chromebook to run WCG? My Chromebook installs Boinc, and WCG is selected. But it just sits there and won't download any tasks. I have six other Android devices running and they just keep chugging along!

Re: Chromebooks

Post the event log. It might reveal the reason it just sits around.

Re: Chromebooks

Not sure what happened. I had posted under the wrong topic. Sorry.
Right, new Chromebook Lenovo C340 11 - it has access to the Google Playstore and I have downloaded Boinc 7.4.53 and got it to connect up to WCG. It downloaded some Covid-19 WUs but immediately crashed.
Here is a bit of the log...

Anybody got any ideas?
The CPU is a Intel(R) Celeron(R) N4000 CPU @ 1.10GHz
It has now done it for the two projects I have to do: Covid and African Rainfall, it has now tried MIPs with same result.
Something is not right. But what and is it the system or a setting?
Thanks all...

Re: Chromebooks

Real Weasle,

I'll try to pull up your error logs in a bit, but you can view them if you go to https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewBoincResults.do

You can click on the results with errors, posting them here in the forums may also help others in the future with Chromebook.

Thanks

Re: Chromebooks

Where is Chromebooks persistent storage? Always regarded this system thin client-ish some comments here https://searchvirtualdesktop.techtarget.com/f...ebook-thin-client-devices

Quote "It accesses any other applications and data via the cloud or a virtual desktop instance, but no data ever lives on the device."

Am though pretty sure to have seen detailed instruction on the web how to get BOINC to run on Chromebook.

Re: Chromebooks

My Chromebook has 64 Gb of storage, so that shouldn't be the problem.

If I choose a WU with an error I get this:
OPN1_ 0002775_ 01979_ 0-- Android 4.14.174-15091-g2b24b1250270 (Android 9) 717

Error 6/19/20 20:55:53 6/19/20 20:58:11 0.00 76.4 / 0.0
Both OS Chrome and Boinc Android App are as upto date as I can make them...

Clicking on the Error:
Result Log

Result Name: OPN1_ 0002775_ 01979_ 0--

<core_client_version>7.4.53</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[

Re: Chromebooks

Goggled found this over at the BOINC LHC project https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/forum_thread.php?id=5192

Maybe the platform is misidentifying in terms of 32 v 64 bit causing the wrong version to be sent.

Re: Chromebooks

Thank you lavaflow for your help.
I also went onto the Boinc Forums and googles for Chromebook and Chrome OS and didn't get a single (as in not one) hit.
I guess that might answer my question. I've tried posting there as well. It's not a huge issue as I'm sure the Chromebook would be slow, but I hate to see idleness in my hardware. The liveware on the other hand is a lazy sxd!

EDIT\ as far as I can see both CPU and OS are 64 bit
