Re: Solar powered Android running BOINC

Could you use the solar to charge a battery, then run that to a buck converter to feed the phone directly ( after removing the phone battery ) ?

I'm thinking about doing something like this for cooling season crunching with phones and let the big system lay off until fall.

The system you are talking about is ...... not cheap at all. It's like: Solar panel (5v) -> battery (5v) -> inverter (220v) -> phone adaptor (5v) -> phone (5v). Unless you need it to be fully automatic, you don't need this kind of setting. Just use a 10000mA or 20000mA power bank is enough.

Re: Solar powered Android running BOINC

Nope
Solar panel>battery>Buck converter>Phone

Here the phone is connected at the leads running to the battery ( after battery has been removed/disconnected)

A buck converter is a dc to dc voltage regulator that uses less electricity than the linear converters that people use from cigarette lighter to USB.

You can get variable or fixed output buck converters. Since your phone battery won't be 5vdc.

I get the buck converters for about $1-3 a piece.
