For the past several days I have noticed that my results returned numbers have dropped. Checking via Boinc I see that each batch of tasks received have an estimate of 2hr 20m (new batch showing 3:08:53).
----------------------------------------Most completed around that tie but several took between 3 & 5 hrs. No problem as they all completed. Looking into Boinc several minutes ago, see this: all cores running tasks but the 1st one looks weird. Progress at 79.957, elapsed at 20:44.20 & counting but the remaining time slowly increasing. Currently showing 5:12:25 & increasing. Host running 24/7. Task in question: SCC_0003868_Fox01-A_11818_0 [Edit 1 times, last edit by Sirius B at Apr 30, 2020 8:02:28 PM] |

What is the CPU runtime on that task? Windows, Linux?
----------------------------------------Any other processes using up CPU time? Just a few days ago I had to go to the my tablet as some Microsoft process was using up 1 full core. AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

Windows. Checking on the processes find 7 tasks using approx. 10% cpu each & approx. 16.5 to 19k ram each. However that task is showing as 00 cpu & only 208k ram.
----------------------------------------Checking on the task properties, I get this: CPU run time 2:28.42 CPU time since checkpoint 00:18.20 It seems it got stuck. Exited Boinc (set to close apps on exit), then restarted. Task now showing running normal with 2:56.40 elapsed. [Edit 2 times, last edit by Sirius B at Apr 30, 2020 8:35:01 PM] |

So Windows says it's using 0% CPU? BOINC says elapsed time on that task is over 20h, what is the CPU time?
----------------------------------------Anyway, sounds like it needs to be aborted. AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

Just as an FYI Sirius Black, for Smashing Childhood Cancer there is an enormous time penalty for running in Windows.
To the point where it really should come with a warning. Your tasks are averaging 2:20 on a good day, while my Linux box from 3 years ago averages 0:43 apiece. If you are interested in this project in particular, I recommend setting up a dedicated computer with Linux. Your local computer shop can help you if you're uncomfortable doing that by yourself. If you don't care whose life you save as long as the research gets done, I recommend selecting all other projects and letting the server send you whatever it pleases. |

Thanks Davie. FYI, it's Sirius B (from the days of growing up during the early days of the space race when Sirius was A & B until the names changed to Major & Minor). Also, I'm a systems builder & do not want to debate O/S, suffice to say that numerous distro's of Linux 64 will not run on this rig (Linux 32 does) & aware of why not.
Falconet's remark on aborting triggered a memory from Seti. before aborting try to exit & restart. if task still problematic then abort. It worked, so no problems. Next build will be a Linux 64 rig as I really like Mint. |

I thought I had read you restarted hence why I did not suggest it.
----------------------------------------Glad it's resolved. AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |
