The most bang per buck is probably from Raspberry Pi. That is ARM based as are some TV boxes and most mobile phones.

How do I custom install the OS on an 8 Core TV box?

What TV box is it? What CPU? Is it Android or Linux?

Many TV boxes are Android on ARM CPU architecture so it should be possible to install the BOINC app and run some WCG projects. Especially on recent versions of Android. Nvidia Shield is a high end Android TV box. Be careful about heat with these, since many boxes are not designed to run at 100% CPU, so you may have to use something like 25% of the CPU just to protect against damage and premature failure.

If it is a custom TV box that you built, if it's an AMD64 (EMT64) Intel or AMD CPU running Linux, then you have much much more flexibility and can run 100% of WCG projects. I plan to build a small TV box someday.
