In an ideal world, all BOINC projects should "compensate" volunteers with credits in the same way.
----------------------------------------The best counter-example was the Bitcoin Utopia project that completely overturned, even shattered, the concept of credits. When you look at the ranking of the BOINC wide teams with or without BU, the difference is not the least. This is the old Credit New debate... |

Seems like WCG is not favored by the top 100 users. Most of them run Collatz Conjecture and very few of them run WCG. Why? What's the problem with these people? I crunched Collatz for a bit and then I actually read what their doing and quit never to return. It's a fools errand. They're trying to prove the Collatz Conjecture by trying every possibility and showing that none violate it. That requires an infinite number of trials. That means they will never be done. That means those running it are the bottom feeders of BOINC, the most ignorant.![]() ...KRI please cancel all shadow-banning |

They're trying to prove the Collatz Conjecture by trying every possibility and showing that none violate it. That requires an infinite number of trials. That means they will never be done. It is the reason why, many years ago, I decided to support WCG, because it is not useless energy wasting but "crunching for the humankind". Whatever the difficulties are for translating research work into therapy (or into environmental solution), I think that WCG represents a meaningful energy and resources investment for the World. I might be wrong, however, as long as I am convinced that WCG sciences deserve my limited contribution, I will participate. Happy crunching! Cheers, Yves |

hundreds of years of CPU time isn't a limited contribution, nor insignificant, yves.
----------------------------------------But yeah -- supporting WCG isn't just supporting the grid, it supports the hundreds of scientists who work on the various projects - and thousands of scientists who use the results of the grid's work. ![]() |

Last I checked which was a long while ago, Collatz Conjecture supported AMD GPUs which other of the projects do also? ![]() ...and to add... It's simple! You can't be in the top 💯 without GPU power and most of the time there is no GPU work at WCG! |
