Hello everyone,
We have released a new version of the World Community Grid software application. This new version includes security enhancements for Windows and Mac computers, as well as an update to the program's screensavers for Mac users. The new version is now available to download. In particular, volunteers running version 7.14.2 or earlier of the application are encouraged to upgrade. To check if your PC or Mac is running an old version of World Community Grid: 1. Open the World Community Grid software application, which can be done either via the small World Community Grid icon on your computer's task bar, or from your computer's application menu. 2. In the main menu of the World Community Grid application: a. (For Windows users) Click on Help to display the help menu. Then click on on 'About World Community Grid - BOINC Manager.' b. (For Mac users) Click on 'World Community Grid' in the main menu. Then click on on 'About World Community Grid - BOINC Manager.' 3. In the About window, the version number is listed toward the top. No update is needed at this time for Linux machines or Android devices. Thanks to everyone for your participation and support. |

My WCG tells me there is no newer version available but I downloaded it from this website.

It does say now and a notice also just arrived.

I'm confused why BOINC just released 7.16.5, and WCG just released 7.14.3. Why are the version numbers out of sync if they're essentially the same codebase? That's confusing.

I think that the discrepancy between WCG version and BOINC version of the software was explained by WCG techs some time ago. Basically it's caused by the fact that WCG version of the BOINC agent is subject to thorough checking and security audit, hence they release it only from time to time - such checks takes time and money. If there is no huge change in functionality or features of the agent, there is no need to redo it and to release an updated version, since the current version works just fine.

I tried to download and install the new client for windows, but during "validating user accounts used by BOINC for secure sandboxes" there is an error: "Failed to reset password on the boinc_master account."
Then installation stops. I left everything on defaults |
