smile MCM - slightly smaller WUs?

Hello everybody;

For the past days I have noticed that my computers need about an hour less to finish MCM work units. Not all of the work units, but most of them.
And so I wonder why this is.

I read somewhere in a post that the WUs for Sarcoma would have about HALF the run time to allow Android devices to meet the deadline too.

But so that is not what I am talking about, I think.
Several of my PCs need about 1 hour less,
and the strange thing is that it does not seem to matter which CPU is in it:
Core i5-8400, AMD A8-9600, AMD FX4320, Celeron E3300...
they all seem to need about 1 hour less.
Which is strange in that the i5 has a much better IPC than the other CPUs.

So, did they add SSE-support or something for newer work units?
Just wondering. :-)

Cheers, keep up the good work, and I wish you all the best for the entire Corona-period.

Re: MCM - slightly smaller WUs?

Thanks Sgt. Joe!

I read that the WUs should be about 50% smaller now,
but I see WUs of different sizes.
Well, I guess that they vary somewhat in size.

Greetings & thanks again;
Carl

Read that several times before and could not wrap my head around "We have however reduced the target runtime for the sarcoma work units to about half of what they were for the ovarian work units."
How you do that and still get the same statistical satisfying result, resolution whatever. confused

Re: MCM - slightly smaller WUs?

Perhaps by adjusting the runtime parameters like starting number of genes. Unsure what is meant by "statistical satisfying" but could still get the same resolution by running more WUs.

Re: MCM - slightly smaller WUs?

That could be an answer, more WU's i.e. packing less work. Armstrdj is called on to clarify.
