New version or not?

Using the check for updates function WCG tells me there is a new version. After downloading and installing the supposedly new version WCG still tells me there is a new version available.

To be or not to be ...

Re: New version or not?

You can actually specify WHERE the client should check for a new version. The default is at Berkeley. You can also specify to not check, which IIRC is default every 14 days.

Now, in it's wisdom, WCG actually points at Berkeley to download the WCG version but seemingly the skinned kit does not specify what specifically to check for and that's why you are probably being told of a newer 'standard' version, which is 7.14.3 with a brand new one out for MAC 7.14.3 still that fixes screensaver stuff compliant with OSX 10.5 or better.

Could be, whole or part, mistaken though.

Re: New version or not?

Thx, lavaflow, this is probably it. Do you know if the "standard" version 7.14.3 works with WCG? I think I had some resource share issues with WCG and the standard client ...

Addendum: I actually can't find the setting for where to set where and how often to look for updates.

Re: New version or not?

You have to read the cc_config.xml wiki page to specify the exceptions.

https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration

On the quick, these could be the lines. Long forgotten the know how

<no_info_fetch>1</no_info_fetch>
<dont_contact_ref_site>1</dont_contact_ref_site>
<client_version_check_url>URL</client_version_check_url>

In the Branded-client configuration section

The 'standard' builds work for all projects AFAIK. Not used the WCG client in years.

Re: New version or not?

Well, switching to the "Standard" client didn't get rid of the "new version" issue. I did find this post though:

Re: New version or not?

Never use the manager here, but started it up and hit the check version updata and it says no new version and I'm on 7.14.2. Not seeing it in the event log neither the notices screen, so suspect there's some 1 bit file in the program directory that signals the 'update available' message.

There isn't 7.14.3 for windows that has been promoted to stable, it's not even mentioned on the official 'all versions' page as being in test https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php
, just seeing on the insiders page that the first beta of 7.16 is circulating, latest build 7.16.5

The Berkeley forum entry is not saying much but a complaint by two people without a support response.
