1/10/2020 1:34:53 AM | World Community Grid | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.

1/10/2020 1:34:55 AM | World Community Grid | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks

Looks like you specified to allow only GPU work in the WCG Device profile where you need to set "Allow research to run on my CPU?" in the custom section to Yes.

Ok.. I have no clue where this setting is located. Is this a Boinc setting or WCG setting?

I did logon to WCG and my devices are set to the default profile and I see nothing on any page or tab that says "allow research to run on my cpu?". I don't see that on any tab or under any option under any tab in Boinc either.

You will find it in Device Profiles under Advanced Options. Also check that you have some projects checked under Available Projects.

@LHnTX, just in case you don't know, the Device Profiles are in Settings in the World Community Grid menu.

@LHnTX,

Our site may show that you are using the default, but BOINC will pull those preferences from any of the sites you are attached to. It uses the most recent version set from all boinc projects you're attached to. To correct this, please do this:

Settings -> Device Manager.

You should see some a column called "selected profile". You may have 'Default' listed there for your computer. Click on that link.

Once in there, you should see some radio buttons, please click the "Custom Profile". It will show what your actual settings are from our site. Look for "Allow research to run on my CPU?". Change this to yes.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click save.

On your client, you will need to go to the projects tab and click on World Community Grid, then press the update project button. You may need to do this twice because first time it'll save the preferences to your client, then on the second update, it'll request work and start processing WCG tasks.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Re: We have not received a result from you in over xxx days....

All harks back to these dubious choices of hiding modified settings behind 5 radio buttons if the particular option does not impact performance. Would you remember years later where something is on WCG device profiles when it is not part of your livelihood, uplinger?

It's soooo overdue this gets grabbed by the horns and fixed permanently.

WCG: Device Manager: device profiles: there are 2 profiles shown-
Default: allow research is already set to "yes", so there is nothing to change
Home: allow research is already set to "yes", so there is nothing to change

What does "on your client" mean? Does that mean Boinc?

Re: We have not received a result from you in over xxx days....

Yes, I agree. This has been a hair pulling experience for me personally and the issue is still not resolved, and I'm pretty techy. I might occasionally have to go to a user support forum, but that might be once a year and the forums are all a bit different. I've been a member using boinc since 2015, but this is the first time that I have ever had to go to the WGC site and change any settings, so I'm stumbling around trying to find them, stumbling around trying to figure out what some of the acronyms in this form mean, stumbling around trying to figure out if I'm supposed to be on Boinc or WCG for the settings being discussed, stumbling around trying to figure out how these forums work (it took me a while to even figure out how to even make a post). Even something as simple as trying to ad a screen shot is not simple for someone that might need help once every few years. The ability to be able to copy and past screen shots would help tremendously. I finally figured out to copy using jing, save to my dropbox account, go to dropbox and get the link, then put that link in the box above the reply, but why so complicated? Before I figure that out I was getting a cryptic error message that told me zip. How is a casual user (especially those that are not very computer savvy) supposed to figure any of this out? I personally think that it might be tremendously easier for the moderators as well (whom I GREATLY APPRECIATE for their time and patience) if the forums, and the pages being discussed were more casual user friendly. I think that would save everyone a lot of time and frustration. I understand that if I was on here all the time, that this would probably be super easy, but most users are not on here all the time and the learning curve is a bit steep for the average Joe.
