Network attached storage

All,

Firstly apologies if this is off topic for this forum. I am considering purchasing a NAS box to store my data. This includes photos, music and documents. My approximate requirements are:

1 to 2 terabytes of space
Ability to stream via DNLA
Ideally a raid 1 setup
The ability to access files via network shares rather than having to use a web interface. I currently have Windows 7 and 10 but compatibility for other OS may be useful in the future.
Security wise - I don't need a particularly complicated permission system as I am the only user most of the time. Data encryption might be useful in case the unit is stolen.

I have not decided on wired or wireless yet. Probably wired as I can easily plug the unit directly into the router.

I would appreciate any opinions on good brands or models or any which are best avoided or any other criteria I should consider. From what I've seen so far the main manufacturers seem to be?:

Synology
Western Digital
Seagate
Qnap
Buffalo

All the Buffalo units I've seen seem only seem to allow access to the file via a web interface.
