For about 14 hours, some of my devices are experiencing this error, while others are unaffected.
----------------------------------------All results file uploads have succeeded, but completed tasks cannot be reported and new work cannot be obtained. When the BOINC client says "Fetching scheduler list", it gets "Master file download succeeded." "internal server error" is a very unhelpful diagnostic. How about sending an error code at least? Most of the affected machines are Linux virtual machines running on Windows hosts, mostly Win7 SP3 x64, one XP SP2 x64, and on the VMs Debian 7 x64 to 9 x64. Two instances of BOINC in a Windows host are also affected, one being the XP machine. So far I am unable to define which combinations are OK or not OK. Has WCG made a change to its HTTP protocol without letting us know? What does NOT fix the issue: - Disable/enable client networking - Restart BOINC client - Restart O/S - Restart computer - Power cycle modem (ADSL2)/router - Change IP by using a VPN - Change CPU generation (Coffee Lake <> Ivy Bridge), motherboard, mem - Uninstall BOINC and install updated version (7.14.2 x64), keeping data. - Detach from project, then re-attach. Workaround, employed once so far: - In BOINC manager, select WCG, DETACH. - Shut down BOINC - Uninstall BOINC permanently. - Shut down and switch off power. - Intent: Dispose of hardware, repeat. --------------------------------------- [Edit 6 times, last edit by Rickjb at Jan 5, 2020 4:49:52 PM] |

@Sgt Joe: Partly true, but mainly the patience of the owner has reached the end of its life.
----------------------------------------3770K CPUs are no longer cutting edge when it comes to GFLOPS/kW of electricity, so mine are due for replacement soon. But Intel has been promising 10nm technology for about 3 years now and it's still not here in the CPUs that are suitable for serious contributions to WCG, and the output of my 7 x 3770Ks was still significant. I'm spending too much of my time, too many $$ on electricity and creating too much CO2 to continue donating to WCG at my current level. Time to move on ... I echo your sentiments. The cost of my hardware is minuscule compared to the costs of electricity to run them. But I will carry on because I can afford it, at least at the moment.

The solution is simple: Ryzen 2700.

If I can't upload anything, a Ryzen 2700 isn't going to help.
----------------------------------------I am getting project backoffs on one computer, even if I ask the upload to "retry now". The others don't have anything to send at the moment. Never mind. They cleared out on their own.

The problem seems to have resolved itself, through no action on my part.
The problem appears to have been at the WCG server end, and the WCG techs may have fixed it without commenting on the forum. I now have only one of the affected computers running, and this one can now download, complete and report tasks. I have not started up and tested the other machines that were affected, so I can't declare the issue "resolved" with certainty. |
