Re: Checkpoint? No checkpoint

Definitely not a reliable time between check points. The first was 3:55 & the second check point was at 10:25 so 6.5 hours between. There was no need to restart to see how it is doing because you can click on the unit and then on properties and it will tell you how long since the last check point as well as the % done.

Re: Checkpoint? No checkpoint

For information, my i5 M520 @ 2.40 managed to complete in 46 hours CPU (51 hours elapsed) time. That is an average of 8 hours between checkpoints, which is rather a long time, especially for a laptop.

My only othe WU errored at 75%.

Re: Checkpoint? No checkpoint

Well, facing big troubles with the checkpoint settings, every 12,5% is not sufficient.

I'm running it on a laptop, which I don't want and can't run 24/7. So I had more often the effect, that I was "falling back" to the last checkpoint, because I couldn't reach the next one during using the laptop. Even to put to hibernate didn't help, the WU got back.

Especially with the long calculation time of the full WU it is dissatisfying. worried

Are there any plans to:
-set more checkpoints?
-to split WU's, that they are faster finished?

Re: Checkpoint? No checkpoint

Set your laptop to hibernate (no power use) or sleep(some power use), when closing the lid. Upon reopening the job will just continue lossless.

Really give hibernate a little time as a large image of your laptop's memory state has to be stored to disk.

Default hibernate may not available in the power options that shows when clicking the start menu i.e. somewhere in the OS power settings you have to enable it and associate it with an action.

I succeeded with my laptop by using 'hibernate'. It should work as long as your machine has power (battery or mains), otherwise it would shut down.

Re: Checkpoint? No checkpoint

Don't use Hibernate, do use Suspend.

There is a difference. The computer is completely powered off with Hibernate, while Suspend does not turn off your computer.

What is the difference between Hibernate and Suspend?

Re: Checkpoint? No checkpoint

Hybrid-suspend is good for a mains-powered machine. With a lappie you should be able to set it to go from suspension to hibernation if the battery gets lower than x%. YMMV.

Re: Checkpoint? No checkpoint

Honestly, if users have to change their habit in order to accommodate the workload, that's not really great. I switch between Linux and Windows for work/game, and that just means I am going to waste hours of work not making much progress. So I have to opt out of this workload for any computers except my server, which hasn't got any yet...

Re: Checkpoint? No checkpoint

Thank you Mike, CLICKING on the Work Unit and then the PROPERTIES button is great for checking when the last CHECKPOINT occurred.
Very useful.
4 hours and 27 minutes at the moment, but I'm clicking on Sleep as opposed to Shut Down now on my lappy to avoid losing work.
Thanks!

Re: Checkpoint? No checkpoint

Ugh, I also just noticed this.
Five of my ARP WUs were at 83% when I powered down yesterday, now they're at 75% again.
