I guess I have one of these old stragglers ARP1_0018788_039
https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/...s.do?workunitId=753943297 So 4.5 days seems to be the norm here. Regards Rayburner |

Seems to vary a lot. I see quite a few that complete in just over a day
https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/...s.do?workunitId=753071222 But then get ones where the wingman times out and a third is brought in, often with all three completing as valid. I wonder if some people are downloading large batches and just aren't getting through them fast enough. Maybe that would explain the extended deadlines. |

This is surprising because there has been no announcement. Also, I would have thought that the stragglers would have been moved up to 4 days to be half of the new norm. It has always been half on all projects.
It seems that all projects are now on an 8 day deadline for at least the last 10 days, except HST which has moved to 11 days. Mike |

Can we get smaller blocks or more time, i play doing daytime, so i have only sleeping time 8+ hour eash day and some idle.
that mean's a 2day block from you will take 6day roughly, this is why so mnay are angry at this project, its like you want data here and now , but project take longer then years, so whats up ith the controll freak issue with timeline. not all have a pc that dont do anythink other then WCG , you have so many idle issue. with client also then i use my pc and then i dont , and its a joke to sit and reconfig so its can take 100% then i dont use pc after 1 minute and not then i game. No wounder why so mnay dont want to help then client is a joke. and yes i know you only have Africa as project but as user its should not be a hazzle its should just be a + then it can take all, then you dont use the pc. and that still dont explan the short time for large block and you cant make a calc if you use pc like i do. |

I don't know how many threads you have available on your machine or how many units you crunch at a time. Some information would help us to solve your problem. However, as a general rule, ARP should not be run on more than half your threads. You can run other projects on the other threads. You only run for 8 hours a day. Do you shut down at the end of that. If you do then you lose a lot of crunching as checkpoints only occur at each 12.5%, so you could lose, say, up to 3 hours of crunching each time you shut down. If instead you set it to 'sleep' or 'hibernate' then it will remember the extra crunching so you don't lose any. ARP units are readily available so you do not need to hold too many waiting. That loses them time in queueing. Go into 'Device Profiles' and set your ARP cache to only 1 more than the units you crunch. As an example, I have an i7-3770 hyperthreaded so I have 8 threads. I set app_config to a maximum of 4 ARP, 4 MCM & 2 OPN to allow for availabilities. That tends to give me 4 ARP, 3 MCM & 1 OPN to crunch. In 'Device Profiles' I set the cache to 5 ARP, 5 MCM & 3 OPN. MCM & OPN are both shorter duration units so can have a larger cache in proportion. Try those settings and the close down method and see how it works. Let us know, please. Re-post here if you want a copy of app_config. You should easily crunch within the deadline on this basis. Mike |

Due to the heat, I'm mainly running at night. The ARPs have save points at 12.5% intervals. So I made myself a list of all the spots and I let the WU run in the morning a bit if it is close to a save point, so I don't lose a bunch of work (like Mike.Gibson just said).
I've tried the hybernation on my machine, and it doesn't work for me as BOINC will crash at some point during the day, but it was worth a try to see if it would work. I'm also only running one at a time (keeping the queue small - like Mike said), so I'm being a good wing man. Every little bit helps, so while I'm only contributing one ARP every 2 days it is something, and when it gets cooler I'll be able to do 2 at a time during the day as well. Good luck Mantakno on tweaking the configuration to make this project work in the time you have available. |

Mike Not that it matters much but MIP also had an 11-day deadline at least as far back as on the 15th when I made this post https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg...ead,43561_offset,0#661787 AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

All deadlines seem to have moved uo by 1 day sometime before 10 July. That includes HST which became 11 days. Mike |

Mike,
----------------------------------------There has been a nice pickup in work units completed. From 7/9 through 7/18 we averaged 13,352 per day. Last three days we have averaged 15,218 (+14%). Paul ![]() |

That could be why 079 came on stream early. With MIP finishing the others needed to fill the void. ARP is of fixed size so this will mean an earlier finish which my statistics will adjust to. Mike |
