Re: Africa Rainfall Project: Badge Recognition Thread

Ruby, just wow
Hey suggest you get some solar and powerwalls :D
Should help out with that power bill.
Hi Jack007, I've thought a lot about solar. I ruled out the Powerwall immediately because its capacity is low and cost very high. With 300 Watt solar panels it would take 3 per rig. The greatest benefit would be during Peak Summer Hours when my TOU rate jumps from $0.07 to $0.42 per kWh, assuming I cut down my big old shade tree.
Because of our antiquated electrical grid there are places in America, e.g. Iowa, Oklahoma & Texas, where on windy days the power companies pay to help them cover their base load. Some day we might get a competent government that will build a modern continental electrical grid. I'll keep dreaming for now.

Competent government is an oxymoron.

It's partly for the lack of trust in the government that I want solar again.
Also you don't just save on the 7 cents a kilowatt. My distribution charges went from $65 to $15 a month. I strongly suspect that you would save hundreds a month.

Anyway in badge news, I started crunching 10 MIPS and it's really slowed down my Africa crunching to like 15 hours (from 10.5) Still it starts crunching immediately on download, and so in 15 hours it will be done, long before that 7 day deadline.

Are you aware of the flawed MIP code that requires 5 MB of L3 Cache per MIP WU???
Exceed that and all of your CPU work slows by over 60 %.

Hmmm, I reduced MIP to 6, my 2 Africa that are almost done will be 19 hours. I don't mind, I need the time :D

Re: Africa Rainfall Project: Badge Recognition Thread

I got a bronze in the lunchtime update. Now I want to see if I'm the first cruncher with a Snurky signature to have a badge for ALL the projects (but I'm clearly at least first equal). tongue

Nice! I missed out on a couple early on. Annoying.
