Re: No work?

I'm still seeing "Tasks are committed to other platforms" on my [Linux] systems on at least 50% of contact attempts, so I reckon there must still be retries out there! -- and something is clearing them out because I'' get a few "No tasks are available" replies mixed with those.

However, I wonder if the mechanism they have in place for workflow control is hamstringing supply of these tail-enders because there are relatively few active tasks out there now?

And if there's no new work from the SCC scientists, we just have to wait -- it is already tagged as an intermittent project, isn't it? How many folks[*1] realize how much science work goes into setting up a new target or targets for a docking exercise -- the ligands are usually well-mapped already, but the targets may need to have accurate models constructed, and that is likely to be non-trivial...

Cheers - Al.

Re: No work?

A Server Status page, like all other BOINC projects have, and a post explaining the current final batch number would be enough for us to stop having to post all the time wondering if the work is done or if the whole system is broken again.

Agreed, I'm still waiting for an update two months later on the progress of the SCC work units.

It's obvious they don't want to or are not able to regularly communicate what's actually happening with the daily workflows.
Or, they (TigerLily and Jurisca Lab) are in the dark as well.
My impression is WCG is actually being supported by a Tech team in the Krembil organization and they don't feel the need to interact on these forums.

Well, at least telling us this would be an honest answer. Better as those constant platitudes...

According to Dr.Jurisica, Krembil isn't involved with WCG at all.Dr.J has avoided any clarification as to why then the Krembil name is plastered all over the place for several months now, when he stated that they are short of funds after the hardware crash back in March.
Any resources and technical support is supposedly provided by UHN.

Re: No work?

We could have quite an interesting discussion about server status pages and what it might entail to get one implemented for a completely non-standard BOINC web set-up such as this one, but [sadly] I don't think this is the right place...

And without knowing what admin tools are available to the ex-IBM version, we can't know how easy it would be for someone to query the status of each project a couple of times a day and post about it.

I suspect the problem in both cases is more one of resource shortage -- a lot of folks might be surprised at how small the support team actually is (and how many other jobs they have at the same time...)

That said, some information would be better than none :-)

Cheers - Al.

There are SOME for me, but while the last week it was overall 95% SCC1 and 5% MCM1, as well as some squirts of OPNG, on some hosts, right now it looks like 85% MCM1 and maybe 15% (likely less) SCC1, strangely, no resends. And that became noticeable late Thursday evening (PST)

But overall, this smells again like a pending power outage or the like coming up soon...

Looked like someone kicked the SCC1 feeder late Saturday. Got a steady supply of SCC1 since and almost all MCM1 WUs have been flushed out. Now just again those occasional bursts of OPNG would be nice... wink

Well, that didn't last long. Monday morning and it is only a handful of SCC1 resends and otherwise just MCM1 again... sad

Let's see what yet another shutdown brings tomorrow morning...
