As per thread title, suddenly one only of my computers can't report completed tasks or request new work. It just gets the above message.
It can upload results files. Other machines are not affected. I moved the hard disc, O/S (Win 7 x64) and all, to another computer, but this does not help. I could try resetting the project or detaching & reattaching, but that would lose 1 day of completed work. Any suggestions? (I tried searching the Community-maintained FAQs thread for the above error message - in double-quotes - but got a zillion irrelevent hits. The WCG forum search facility seems to be completely dumb and useless.) |

A search string like this gives better results:
----------------------------------------Scheduler AND request AND failed AND HTTP AND internal AND server AND error |

Thanks, SNURK
----------------------------------------(Where are specs for the "advanced" search syntax that you suggest? I can't see this in the Community-maintained FAQs index) I tried your exact search string and it came up with, among other things: this thread by Mamajuanauk. A respondent there suggested restricting the no of results that can be reported in one call by inserting a line such as <max_tasks_reported>50</max_tasks_reported> into cc_config.xml. It worked for him but not for me. I backed up the BOINC data directory. Resetting the project did not help, and neither did detaching and re-attaching WCG. I reinstalled BOINC with the current recommended version, 7.14.2, but again no. No tasks to report now. Download of master file succeeds but the error re-appears when new tasks are requested. After all of this, I think I'll need some Mamajuana soon ;) [Edit 2 times, last edit by Rickjb at Sep 28, 2019 11:44:40 AM] |

Update - 30 September 19:
----------------------------------------After a few days, my BOINC client started downloading, uploading and reporting work again. I don't think it was due to any of the many things I tried. [Off-topic but related: When I did start to get work again, the tasks all errored out. Messages log showed they would give a "failed to initialise a DLL" (not exact wording) error many times, then quit, with uploaded log showing a "too many exit(0)s" error. And the machine was behaving badly in other ways. When I rebooted Windows, I discovered that I had not rebooted it since I'd manually installed the latest dotNET and Windows 7 updates. After rebooting, all is running normally. There's a lesson there! (Note that the original HTTP server errors started before I installed the Windows updates.) ] [Edit 2 times, last edit by Rickjb at Oct 1, 2019 5:25:52 AM] |
