Will be cool if the socket is the same so that legacy mobos work after a bios update. Hard to believe it will be possible to keep it cool if all threads are going at 100%

Oooof, might be $2500-3000 USD, and 200-300 Watts of power consumption. I can't afford either of those things right now, but I'm really excited this is coming out. Go AMD!

Oooof, might be $2500-3000 USD, and 200-300 Watts of power consumption. I can't afford either of those things right now, but I'm really excited this is coming out. Go AMD! Yes, quite pricey at the moment, but all we have to do is wait, and the price will drop as they always do. As for the power bill, no easy way around that, unless you invest in a number of solar panels - or switch on your computer in lieu of an electric heater! ![]() |

I hope BOINC developers raise the limit on concurrent threads (200) and maximum work units (1000) soon. Imagine a dual socket system (Threadripper or EPYC) with 128 cores, 256 threads.

You’d need an awful lot of RAM to handle 200 concurrent tasks, that alone would get pricey, roll on that big lottery win
