Waiting To Acquire Lock

After a short problem with my PC I am left with four tasks that are "Waiting to run" whilst newer tasks are running normally. These four tasks have run for between 31 minutes and 3 hours 8 minutes and have now been like this for over 48 hours. In brackets after "Waiting to run" it states "waiting to acquire lock". I have never seen this before and wonder what is causing it and how I can rectify it.
