We had one of our servers on the backend experiencing issues yesterday that we were able to mostly keep from causing any user facing issues.
However, once we recovered the system and had it operating normally, we ran a command to check the filesystem and make sure everything was correct. That is a very heavy IO process. While that was running the backup of the filesystem kicked off which is another very heavy IO process (it was my mistake not to cancel the backup for the day). These two processes running simultaneously while handling the normal system load was too much for the system and it caused the system have extended locks (which generated the errors that you observed). Once the backup got through its first part (creating a new snapshot of the filesystem and removing the old snapshot), the load went down enough for the file system to respond normally. We have stopped the backup for now and the filesytem check is 98.1% complete so we do not expect to see further issues. Sorry for the issues and thanks for letting us know. |
