My first WU since few weeks when I started this project. Downloaded 1 hour ago (HST1_306290).

I get them from time to time. When I'm done with some of these WUs, it may be a week or so before I get another batch. Generally when I do I get a couple at one shot.

It is always challenging to fetch some HSTB WUs, in particular because the current active projectw have long WU computation time (e.g. MCM over 4 hours) comparing to SCC1 taking about 1 hour (or less) per WU.
----------------------------------------As longer the WUs need, as fewer the number of request for new work, as less chance to fetch some rare WUs. For example, since SCC1 stop, my 6 and 8 thread machines have significant trouble to fetch HSTB and ARP1 WUs. With SCC1 WUs being computed at the same time, I have more or less permanently ARP1 and from time to time HSTB on those machines. As more threads a machine has, as more frequently WUs are requested, as more chance you have to fetch such "rare" work. Cheers, Yves |

This is quite a long thread, so forgive me if this has been iterated before, but I'm just curious if anyone knows why specifically certain projects end up having so few work units vs. others? All I seem to be getting now are MCM, Microbiome, and Covid projects. I'm enrolled in every project for each computer if that sheds any light on anything.

The total number of work units for HSTB is rather small in comparison to other projects. The researchers are making more batches but the work is slow going. For this reason, they are spreading out the work for this project so it isn't over in a blink, nothing for awhile, new work appears but gone out in a few weeks, repeat. If they opened the floodgates for this project only the power users would be able to get units due to their large number of machines, leaving the vast majority nothing to crunch and no badges to earn.

You are more likely to get HSTB work if you if you limit your queue size and run only one other science, preferably a short one. This will cause your machine to request HSTB more often, each time your other science reports a task.
So under current conditions COVID is short. If you run only those two each time a COVID task finishes your machine will get a chance at more HSTB. |

OPN1 is not as short: about 3 hours /WU, relatively similar to MCM.
----------------------------------------Indeed, I fetched more HSTB work at SCC1 time (about 1 hour /WU). MIP1 is shorter (about 2 hours) but MIP1 impacts negatively other projects running simultaneously. Yves |
