Re: Is anybody still getting work?

I've had good luck picking up work with the following setup:
HSTB and ZIKA selected.
ZIKA limited to the number of cores on the machine.
Work cache set to 1 day.

This way, I always have work, but it continues to automatically request to try to get to the 1 day cache. I've gotten over a dozen so far in the past couple of weeks, and with Caitlin's message that work is not ending any time soon, this method should be more than good enough to get me to Ruby.

That said, I also have a couple machines set to MIP and HSTB, without the limit to MIP because they don't connect to the Internet often, and I rarely get any HSTB with those.

The way you have described, you will have difficulty picking up work on HSTB unless you concentrate the updates within the times I set out in the last post of page 18.

I had my machine working 24/7 on HSTB only and maintained a cache of 9 days work without using Boinc Command.

My machine was set for a cache of 9.5 days as HSTB units have to be returned within 10 days and my device profile was set to get HSTB only.

If your machine operates less than mine then reduce the cache in proportion. A high cache enables you to smooth out the fluctuating availability of work.

If I was ever running short of HSTB units then I added an extra project temporarily to my device profile just long enough to get sufficient of the other project to keep all 8 threads occupied, but that was only necessary very occasionally.

Instead of ZIKA, shouldn't that be FAAH2 (FAHB)? As far as I know, FAAH2 is the only project limited to the number of cores unless they have changed ZIKA recently

Re: Is anybody still getting work?

All projects can now be limited in the device profile (since about 5-6 months). The drop down I saw on HSTB e.g. was up-to 64.

Re: Is anybody still getting work?

The device profile mentioned relates to the number of WUs that can be in your cache. This is not the number of WUs that can be worked - that needs to be set using app_config.

For example, I am currently running 2 FAH2 and 6 MCM on my 8 threads, restricted by app_config, whereas my device profile is set to cache limits of 8 & 36, respectively. That is because the time limits are 1 day and 7 days. With 2 threads, I can only crunch 8 FAH2 units per day.

Re: Is anybody still getting work?

I should have added that the cache restriction is almost at the bottom of the device profile page.

If you can't set up a scheduler task, you will have to do it manually. Request an update at 16 minutes and 30 seconds past the hour. If you get work then it will repeat the request 2 minutes later. If not, then do the update manually after 2 minutes. Repeat twice more (the last time is to pick up resends if available).

I've done that today and it has really worked! I now have almost a full cache. Certainly enough to last me until I'm back at work on Monday. Thanks so much!

Well I dedicated my 4 machines to just HSTB. After two days I did not receive a single WU. Definitely not like February & March in which each machine got 5-6 Large WU's (16-24hrs) per day. Just as well I am not using up WU that some other crunchers need to achieve a more realistic badge goal.

Using the times specified, my queue is full.
