why this reading?

Just assembled device with i7 8700K then loaded W10 Pro. Results Status shows W 8.1. Any body know why it would?

I bet you're using an outdated version of BOINC, it is a known error. Get the latest installer from WCG download page and the OS version will be reported correctly.

7.14.2 is what i have.

It should say "Win 8.1 (XXXXXX)" in your case. As in, an NT version number after it. What version number does it say you're running?

Eh, I do not understand your statement, that - having BOINC 7.1.4.2 and Windows 10 Pro, results should show Win 8.1 :O I remember talks about issues with older version and incorrect reporting Windows 10 as Windows 8.1 was one of them and version 7.1.4.2 was supposed to fix it. And fixed it, at least in my case. With previous version all the results sent to machines with Windows 10 (Core and Pro) onboard were showing Windows 8.1, now, after update, they display the OS version correctly.
