The upgraded Android version is still in BETA test status with Berkeley BOINC. More information on it's release will be released later.
----------------------------------------As a BETA tester I have an upgraded version loaded and it is running clean but testing is not complete. Bill F ![]() ![]() |

Beta as in the Google Play Store or beta as in Boinc Alpha/GitHub. I'm subscribed to the Google play store beta but there's been no updates since 2014(?).

Same problem as Da Ti reported, after upgrade of WCG on Windows as you recommend, it replaced the BOINC Manager completely and the other projects are now inaccessible. Not good! (I only activated the BOINC Snooze mode during the installation.)

Just upgraded one of my Windows machines. Let the WU queue clear out, manually uninstalled, rebooted and then installed the new client. All seems to be running OK for me. Seemed to take a long time to uninstall but I put that down to the old version suffering through various Win 10 upgrades so not sure the state of the install info in the registry.
@upupa I can imagine Snooze mode might be a problem. Windows tends not to like touching applications that are still loaded in memory. Would think the upgrade would fail to be honest. |

Those of you having problems. Can you do the following?
Uninstall BOINC/World Community Grid Reboot Install 7.14.2 Reboot And then let me know what problems you run into? |

As far as I can tell, this seems to be an update with more Mac support and much more GPU support/fixes, and their advertisement of how it will save 1 step during a fresh install. There is no direct, thorough comparison of 7.2 and 7.14 (4+ years of development and more than 12 version changes).
----------------------------------------This is the WCG site...not BOINC...WCG does not support GPU at all for any projects and it appears it never will. So why is WCG pushing this version for WCG users? WCG should spend time a)investing in GPU based project development and b)figuring out how to get WCG/BOINC to run on the billions (literally) of iOS devices (even though they would crunch relatively slow compared to average consumer CPUs of the 2016). If there are 2 billion iOS devices and WCG convinced 1 million devices to participate, that would only be .05% of 2 billion devices. Currently there are just over 4 million devices running WCG so this small iOS bump would yield a 25% increase in overall device participation. An iOS and Android app called Dreamlab has been around for about a year (I believe) that competes on the same multi-project principles of WCG and BOINC. With the world moving so fast out of traditional computers and into "mobile" devices, I think WCG/BOINC is shooting their own foot doing nothing for development on iOS. ![]() |

I think the idiom "scrape the bottom of the barrel" applies in this case. While there will be a increase of WU done it will also be detrimental for the amount of man hours required for the programming side of things. While mobile phone CPUs are most certainly impressive, they are designed with power saving in mind and conversely desktops are more about productivity as they can afford to consume power at higher rate and thusly are more tolerant with heat that they produce as wasted energy. Controversially, desktop CPUs are far more likely to have Hyper Threading which gives a small boost. Personally I have my scepticism about DreamLab simply due their close affiliation with Vodafone and Vodafone being one of the worst network providers. |

wow, I got suckered into installing WCG app, not realizing it would nuke BOINC. WTF? Maybe I'll reinstall BOINC, and delete WCG from my MAC and my BOINC project list. I just made silver, whatever. But I do NOT like being fooled. BAD MOVE WCG
