Hello retep57,
As far as I know, it is not possible for the percent completed to go backwards. This implies that the work unit with 2% completed is not the same work unit as the one with 3% completed. You might want to look at My Grid to see when that device last returned a result. It is possible that something went wrong. Or it may have completed in an unusually short length of time. Or the program may have decided the work unit was non-convergent (which would explain the slow progress to that point and may be the most likely answer). If something went wrong - - well, if it does not happen again, just credit it to Murphy's Law. If the problem keeps recurring, there are several checklists to go through. The first is to use the hardware diagnostic programs listed in the 'Useful Utilities' thread at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2490 Keep us informed, mycrofth |

thanx for comment.
basically i was having huge problems running rosetta on my main puter, it turns out that "gscatserver.exe" was stuffing up the program, also i think googlefah.exe... so when i rebooted after that last windows update similar problem went from 40% to zero % but when i did the crt alt del to get task manager up it revealed the offending programs, i just terminated gscat and back to 40% instantly, i think that is msofts beta version of malware program, i suspect it thought the ud prog was malware grrrrr.. most annoyed... then to top it off i thought i would try the wcg version on this my 2nd puter to compare notes and see if i had less problems, then arghhh i think i may have trashed a 100hr w/u in the process, oh well live and learbn, at least now i have 2 puters odoing rosetta so after 4 days iwill be ahead YAY.. next i amtrying to get linux on a 2nd hdd onthis puter tosee if i can get ud going, one suggested wait till wcg gets linux version... cant seem to install wine or indeed any other program extra... just the suite that comes with the fedora core 2 linux disk... if i can get enuf advice to get that going i will buy another box without having to pay bill for a 3rd version if windows... cheers |

Hello retep57,
Just a reminder. Any other background program that tries to use your spare cycles will shut out Rosetta unless it is set to lowest priority as well. That might be what you ran into. I do not know anything about gscatserver.exe. mycrofth |

Hello retep57, Just a reminder. Any other background program that tries to use your spare cycles will shut out Rosetta unless it is set to lowest priority as well. That might be what you ran into. I do not know anything about gscatserver.exe. mycrofth hmm good point thanx for comment, learn something new everyday... a bit annoeyd that a program that was not sposed to be loaded ( googlefah.exe was still there choking the system, ) i would applaud any lot with the reach of google to encourage the great unwashed to contribute to these types of projects) i put folding on because i did not want to do ligand fit on old units... so i think the beta msoft malware caused 1st hassle.. at least now i can figure out what got in the way, as u say low priority would get pushed out the way easily, just has not happended to me b4 in nearly a years worth of crunching time... appreciate your insights cheers |

Hello All,
I have 1 time noticed my w/u go backwards, from 70% to 69%, but I guessing that was caused by a power failure. Utility company around here was moving some lines, and the whole neighborhood lost power for about 15 minutes. When power was restored, and I rebooted I noticed the difference. Agian just guessing that with a sudden shutdown, the current process lost data, and it picked back up from the last good save/restore point. Best Regards, Rick |

your dead on rwillis
if the program hasn't saved the data before it is told to close or is forced to close (like when the computer loses power) it will start back-up at its last backup |

comp_interrlz,
thanks for the confirmation, but I'm now wondering if you loose w/u during a 'controled stutdown'..... ie after patch tuesday. Best Regards, Rick |
