My WCG client stopped uploading/downloading work about a week ago. I had dozens of completed tasks that expired because they were stuck in the transfer queue. The event log says that I suspended network activity. (I haven't) I checked the Computing Preferences and there are no network restrictions. I reset the project and that didn't help. I uninstalled the client and reinstalled, and the new install is doing the same thing.
Any ideas? Thanks. |

Take a look under ¨Activity¨ in the action bar of the advanced view -- it might be that. I´m a little surprised that this is remembered across an uninstall/install, but not that surprised as it´s the sort of setting that is remembered across a stop/start, so must be stored in a hive somewhere and might not be cleared out in an uninstall as it would then be ready for an updated install.

It could have been done on the website and global preferences could have been downloaded again carrying across installs. There should be an option to use local preferences somewhere (I'm not on a PC with BOINC) in the options.

The Activity menu says "Network activity always available".

This could be way off, but you´ve just reminded me that I have seen some odd behaviour on the Linux client. I don´t remember specific versions, and I certainly don´t know if it happens on other platforms, but what I saw was that the flags in the Activity menu didn´t always show the actual status. It might be worth clicking "Network activity always¨ again, just to make sure.
If it´s not that, then did you check mmonnin´s suggestion? Options -> Computing preferences... will tell you whether the client is using host or local preferences (above the tabs). |

I finally got it working again, although I never did find a problem. I uninstalled WCG, rebooted, and deleted the C:/ProgramData/BOINC directory. Then I reinstalled.
