This morning I uninstalled/Reinstalled WCG SW. (weird things were happening).
----------------------------------------Downloaded SW/ Installed it. But 4 hrs later I have no work units. Looking at the event log I saw "Couldn't resolve host name. I this the cause? can your system resolve any other host names? Looks like a DNS problem. If not, can you successfully ping your DNS server?

it's not out of the question that one system has it's DNS configuration "borked" while the others do not. I'm not a windows person but I think you can bring up a command prompt window and enter: ping www.worldcommunitygrid.org. If DNS is working on your system, it will resolve the name and send a series of pings to the IP address. If it can't resolve the name then it is a windows problem not a BOINC problem. I have many LINUX systems and there are times when most work but one doesn't, probably due to operator error or and update to BIND caused a configuration change. Its unique to that system.

I fired up google to learn about DNS ping. Before doing the ping test I cycled power a second time it was sorted. ![]() ![]() |
