Summer / work overload casualties

So this is my new topic, got inspiration after my computer was found with black *dead( screen after return from my vacation at sea. Anyway, anted to make one topic about the "casualties" of:
- summer heat
- work (time) overload
in order to commemorate the "fallen hardware" & show everyone here (especially the moderators / admins on WCG), that we need to change some of the hardware we have at our homes.

So here's it, my casualty of this summer:
SuperMicro PDSME (server board) gave up, wouldn't boot. Fortunately I've found that someone's selling the same mbo (motherboard) in one computer so bought it for some 50€. Windows 10 is up & running now, RAID 10 is checking itself as I'm writing you these lines.

Got some old Kentsfield XEON's & some Conroe / Penryn spare CPU's if someone needs them & some DDR2 RAM's for spare. If anybody needs it, I can donate those! Just contact me on klik@vip.hr

So, did you have some "casualties" this summer? cool

Re: Summer / work overload casualties

luckily, no hardware failures so far this summer. although, I have dialed back the CPU load from 100% to 75% on the PCs that are in the hottest room in the house

Re: Summer / work overload casualties

I have not had failures lately, but years ago, I had three Compaq P III's all give up with dead motherboards a long time ago. I never bothered to diagnose why, but was able to re-use all the hard drives, so I knew it was not them. I also had a Gateway P IV die from blowing the tops off of some capacitors. I had gotten all of them for either free or at very low cost, may $10 or $20 US. They have all long since (more than 10 years ago) been recycled.
Cheers

Re: Summer / work overload casualties

Never had a problem so far, but that might be because I turn them off in the summer and bring them back on part-time in the autumn, full-time in the winter, and then reduce again in spring.

In essence I use them as a compliment to the central heating in the house. That way the cost of the electricity used is offset, to a degree, by the cost of the gas saved.

Re: Summer / work overload casualties

I'm still running with 2 computers open, as in Croatia it's still gets to 30°C in late afternoon. But will think about stopping them in the future, as I had to replace the MBO, that wasn't easy to find. ;)

Still running on "full power", just that Tthrottle keeps down the CPU power from time to time.
