Intel is dropping hyperthreading from i7 chips

i7 chips will have 8 cores and 8 threads, leaving the 8 core/16 thread combination for the i9.

Re: Intel is dropping hyperthreading from i7 chips

It almost seems as though Intel is trying to redefine their model lineup.
Low end i3
Mid range i5
Upper mid range i7
Monster i9

I'll stick with zen for now. Best bang for the buck IMO.

Re: Intel is dropping hyperthreading from i7 chips

So glad I went with Ryzen.
Intel have also tried putting 8 threads in their 15 W laptop chips. The chips just barely eek out 2.3 ghz when utilized at 100% which is, for the i7-8550U, well below the 4 ghz "max" that it generally never reaches, even when not run hard. My surface book running i5-6300U runs at a comfortable 65 C at 2.9 ghz all day.

I'm aware that this is asking a lot for a laptop, but I was expecting more from Intel for these kinds of prices. I'll definitely be sticking with AMD on the desktop side. Ryzen 7 1800x is still running strong.
