Overclocking 8086K or 8700K

Hi,
I just bought a new 8086K chip and I am able to overclock it to 5.1 Ghz stable.

I know 8700K and 8086K are very similar. Can you guys let me know how much you have overclock these two chips and what kind of cooling do you have?

Thanks,

8086K - 4$25US. I got mine on eBay when they have this one time 20% off for $340. Essentially, this is the same price as 8700K with no discount.

Congrats.

https://ark.intel.com/products/148263/Intel-C...-12M-Cache-up-to-5_00-GHz

6 cores, 12 threads.

Have you done any experiments running 6 tasks vs 12 tasks? I read some things about hyperthreading being a security issue (OpenBSD) and sometimes slower than running with hyperthreading off.

Wonder if 6 cores would be faster (tasks finish 2x faster?) than 12 threads?

Re: Overclocking 8086K or 8700K

I have overclocked this to 5Ghz when crunching Mapping Cancer Marker and 5.2 Ghz when doing SCC.

For some reason, MCM will cause a crash beyond 5 but SCC can run very stable at 5.2. I think it is the way MCM is using the CPU causing this.

I have always ran it with 6C/12T but I also did 6C only. 6C will get you a 15% faster but 6C/12T will get you a lot more work done.
