Boinc client on ThinPro-OS

Hi guys,

been watching the forums for a while now, but never made any posts before. So this is my first time...kinda feel deflowered now biggrin

Has anyone installed the boinc-client and manager on any ThinPro-OS before?

I can't get it via apt-get command. To me it seems, that the Boinc-Software is missing in the repos? Error is something like "Package not available".
Any hints?

I'm familiar with standard Linux use, but I'm no professional biggrin

Maybe Boinc can't be installed on ThinPro?

I can give more detailed infos on Monday, 'cause I don't have access to the machine (it's a HP T610) right now.

off topic...I have no idea how good or bad such a device will perform.

Any thoughts and inputs welcome.
Thanks and have a nice day

Re: Boinc client on ThinPro-OS

Well, you could try to add a repo...maybe use something like

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:costamagnagianfranco/boinc

then run apt-get and see if BOINC installs

I'd never heard of ThinPro until now. Stripped down version of linux, I guess? You might have to install missing libs to get BOINC working. Not a linux guru either, so take with grain of salt.

Good luck! biggrin

Re: Boinc client on ThinPro-OS

Thanks for the reply.

I tried that, but add-apt-repository command couldn't be found either. Looks like that many libraries are missing in that OS.

But I solved it by installing Win 7 Embedded instead of ThinPro.

The device is now running and the first tasks are completed.
Btw...Performance seems to be rather poor (clock speed is around 1.6 GHz) - FAH2 tasks take around 18 hrs

You can install it manually if it's not in a repository.

This is not surprising given the specs listed .
Although, it is listed as being available for $57.28 US so it is cheap and small. It would be interesting to see how much electricity it draws.
Cheers

Power consumption seems to be steady around 23 watts, while running 2 SCC1 tasks which causes a cpu-load of 100% (average runtime of those SCC tasks is about 8.844 h)
Annual wattage (assuming 23*24*365) is ~ 201.48kwh
