Re: Beating a Dead Horse??

Yes I run classes all the time. Problem is that you won't be able to afford my billing rate. Plus I focus on content rather than volume which makes our goals incompatible.

Hi Arquebus!
I'm so pleased to get into contact with you even as it is a little crooked this way.
Thank you for judging my abilities so unbiased inclusive of my financial status.
What do you teach?
What do you find wrong with the contents of my posts except for them being too numerous?
Would there be a charge for your opinion on that?

Sorry for still being Off Topic.

Re: Beating a Dead Horse??

If memory serves me, I read in another thread that the aim was to let the WUs run dry through the end of 2017 but then the project would return to normal capacity in 2018. The WCG forums seem very inactive -- rarely any posts by WCG staff or project scientists -- so it would be nice for more active participation and status updates.

Exactly this.

Experienced, educated, speculation is still speculation. It would be nice to hear information from official sources once in awhile to know where things stand.

From the August 2017 Update:

Future Plans

Future plans include letting our results “run dry” in a few months’ time. This will help us organize the vast number of simulations that we are currently running. More specifically, by running the results “dry” we will be able to investigate the progress of the simulations, fix any issues, create efficient backups, and then restart the simulations “clean”. Restarting “clean” will not only mean that we will have corrected any problems that might be occurring, but it will also mean that all simulations will restart again simultaneously which will guarantee a more efficient monitoring of their progress. Additionally, new simulations will be added to the workflow based on the information we have already gathered.

Re: Beating a Dead Horse??

Even with using the Task Scheduler to only request work at the 03/33 minute mark, my 12 core cruncher could not get enough to avoid running out of work. I grew weary of daily babysitting, switching profiles to keep the queue filled with enough work to last until the next time I would check in, only to find that it had run dry because I forgot to check in. That computer is now running FAHB for a while.

However, the flow is steady enough to keep my 2 4-core crunchers feeding on a diet of pure HSTB. They are also running the Task Scheduler hack (explained elsewhere).

Cheers coffee
