I have been hit with a virus and had to reset the project then aborted the project and reloaded BOINC 7.8.3. I was then running only WCG MIP on 4 processors. These 4 MIP tasks hanged at a similar progress time: xx.666% (no joke). Prior to reset, I aborted the 4 tasks and they uploaded as <completed>. I am concerned these tasks would create issues in the MIP Database. Thanks

Jalad,
Welcome to the forum! I'm not one of the system tech people, and I can see that you are concerned not to cause any problems with the results of the MIP science project, but I think I can set your mind at rest. The system should have recognised that the four Work Units (WUs) were aborted by your actions and should have re-issued them to someone else to complete. If you go to the "Results Status" page of the WCG web site you should be able to see the WUs that you recently worked on, or are processing or are queued up on your machine. If you see the four that you had problems with, they will probably show a status of "User Aborted" or "Detached" as a result of your actions. If you then click on the "Result Name" for each of those WUs, you will get another window where you should be able to see all the machines that have worked on that WU. You will hopefully see that they have been re-issued and processed by someone else. I'm sorry that you had an infection on your machine, and I think it is great that you are concerned. I hope you can see that the system has recovered from your problems and is not affected. |

Thank you Apis for your reply.
I verified the 4 tasks and indeed they are already assigned. Looks like, so far, my old laptop is OK. Maybe I overreacted a bit, although the tasks hanging was not the only symptom, but I'd rather be safe when it comes to hacks/virus and warn possible connections. Thanks again. |
