Since I joined BOINC I've wanted to know how the average is calculated. How many days are included? Is it a simple arithmetic average or some weighted average like moving exponential? I've never found any answers. The Wiki just rambles and says nothing. Does any one know???
----------------------------------------BOINC Credit System Recent average credit To find the useful amount of work provided by a computer, a special calculation called recent average credit (RAC) is used. This calculation is designed to estimate the number of credits a computer, user, and team will accumulate on an average day. Due to the many variables not taken into account, including the inconsistency of host processing, time it takes to validate work units, discrepancies in benchmarks, and possible project down time, the RAC calculation has proved to be only a guide. Additionally, RAC is independent of computers, users, and teams, meaning their respective data cannot be simply added up.[why?] RAC was originally meant to help scientists understand the computational power available to them. Today, this calculation allows for increased competition among users and teams by allowing even new users to quickly move up in rank based on RAC, which should theoretically reflect how fast work is being processed. ![]() ...KRI please cancel all shadow-banning |

----------------------------------------RAC is pointless until you crunch for about a month. Then it will be close to your average daily production. I don't care for the calculation either. It also takes a long time to reach zero. Even weeks w/o credit. ![]() |

I know. I quit running POGS and it's dwindling so slowly as WCG rises just as slowly. I just wish they'd say what the mathematical formula is for the calculation. Why the secrecy???

Only conspiracy theorists see secrets... Simple 'math' reveals the WCG version is credit divided by days of membership. So happens a change was proposed and put at the bottom of the ToDo list to change/add RAC like averages at WCG.

To make it simple:
----------------------------------------RAC / 100 = X GFlops But we don't use BOINC RAC on WCG, as points in WCG are calculated: RAC * 7 = Y WCG Points & no, you can't go in a shop (for now) with that credit. But can earn some GRC's. ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by KLiK at Jan 2, 2018 5:32:13 PM] |

Only conspiracy theorists see secrets... What a bizarre thing to say.Yeah...lots of posts and no badges. Anyway, it's just better to look at your daily credit production for projects that use creditnew and don't have consistent task times. For those that have set credit/task (better in IMO) you can compare CPU time to see if hardware is better than others and daily production can be extrapolated. ![]() |

Yeah...lots of posts and no badges. I believe "lavaflow" is a nom de plume for another cruncher. I believe it is also possible to not show the badges (but I do not know how to do this.) Cheers

Is it possible to have another column in WCG to just show average RAC per day? All these different calculations are hard to work out between different projects. Having a standardized value like RAC that every uses or even GFlop/s would be helpful to me. This way I know how I'm contributing between projects Rosetta@Home, WCG, SETI, SHA collision, etc.

If you log into any other BOINC project and look at your dashboard aka account stats it'll list all projects including WCG. E.g., https://einsteinathome.org/account/dashboard
----------------------------------------WCG does not show server status like other projects and that would be nice to have at WCG. ![]() ...KRI please cancel all shadow-banning |
