Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 74smilesmile

There has been talk/speculation that Oprah, as in Oprah Winfrey, will run for US President in 2020. After her speech last night at the Golden Globe awards, the talk/speculation has heated up.

Et voila!

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 74smilesmile

I read Oprah Winfrey's Golden Globe speech
and found:
All the elements needed to captivate the hearts and minds of future voters.
Childhood memories.
The race card played - something I don't have much practical insight in; Denmark kept it's shame on the islands she sold to the U.S.A. in 1917 - now the U.S. Virgin Islands

Oprah Winfrey says:
"I want to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association because we all know the press is under siege these days. We also know it's the insatiable dedication to uncovering the absolute truth that keeps us from turning a blind eye to corruption and to injustice."
Michael Soussan, the whistleblower from the Food-for-Oil Scandal asked a very pertinent question: "Why does news magazines run ads for airplanes? Do you go around byuing fighter jets?" Well, I had wondered myself whom the target group could be. It's not me. He went on to say, that those ads could be pulled if the magazines did not adhere to certain unwritten rules. So, my idea of how free the press is took a turn for the worse Sunday when watching "Backstabbing for Beginners" and hearing 'the horse himself' speculate.

Oprah Winfrey says:
"what I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have."
Exactly Michael Soussan's words, although he was not channelling them in the #MeToo direction.
She celebrates women. They are 50% of the voters.
She celebrates the #MeToo movement - Time Magazine's Person of the Year. I shall be humble. The few and far between inequalities or harassments or need to submit I have felt in my sheltered place prevented me from getting the experience of the members of this movement.
She was dressed in black - most female guests were, I'm told.

In spite of her speech having the flavor of populism (which is not always the beast it's cranked up to be), I think you could have far worser candidates for President of the United States of America than Oprah Winfrey.

I clearly remember this article in Newsweek in 2007
- that's when I found out what '200-thread-count sheets' were

I also remember Oprah Winfrey's 'Book Club' (wonderful initiative, too) where she picked 'Karate Chop' - one of my favorite books by one of my favorite authors.

Were she to run, and were I entitled to vote, I would look past her sales pitch and remember Africa and the books and vote for her.

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 74smilesmile

NBC apparently forgot it has a news division on Sunday night when it campaigned for Oprah Winfrey to run for president, but on Monday, the network blamed a third party for an errant tweet backing the TV talk show queen's supposed 2020 ambitions.

In case anyone had any doubts about where the media stands this should take care of it. The bias against @realDonaldTrump is now so obvious they have simply given up hiding it.

That I shall not be able to tell, GeraldRube.
I rarely watch TV. If I do, it's not American news.

What I do here is to read the transcript of what Oprah Winfrey said
and try to form an opinion based on that
while remembering a couple of things I noticed years ago that made me respect her.

My current hero, Michael Soussan, came with a prediction you probably will hate, GeraldRube.
In his opion Mr Trumpf will be felled rather soon,
the theory being that he has delivered that considereable tax cut for businesses - 35% -> 20%
which was what he was needed for, and now he can go .....

- now I expect you to cancel our trip around Chesapeake Bay in you Chevy truck crying
