Until yesterday I thought that I could not delete a post that had an answer after it, because I have had this message:
The error message is: Cannot delete a post that has reply! on several occasions over the years when I have tried to delete a post. I’m furthermore informed that I can report this: » If you believe this is a bug, click here to report this error to Website administrator If I choose to do that, Windows Live starts to install itself on my computer, which I believe is because that ”» If you believe this is a bug ….” is a link to a mail formula. I don’t want to install Windows Live. Yesterday BladeD told me I could deleted a post in the ”4 letter game” with lots of answers after it instead of editing the words out, and I was informed that it was only if there were quotations from my post that I could not delete. And indeed I could delete the post in question. Just now I tried to delete a post which has not been quoted, but has one post after it, but got this message again. The error message is: Cannot delete a post that has reply! When I try to erase the text totally in the "Edit" mode I'm informed that "Post body is a required field." This did not happen when I erased the word in the 4 letter game post. I could erase that word completely and leave the "Post body" empty without any protests. In order to double check that a Delete is doable I simulated deleting a ”4 letter word game” post in the middle of everything, and the message was the normal: You are about to delete this post. Please review the post information below before you delete it. If you do want to delete this post, please enter your current password to confirm. I think my question is: Do I do something wrong? Or is there some bureaucracy that needs an update in certain cases? |

A reply is a reply, with or without quoting the post being replied to, technically they are exactly the same.
----------------------------------------Posts and replies form an organizational chain here, so once a post has a reply, it can not be removed, to include you cant delete when older than 7 days, even when it's the last post or just the OP. Of course there's also an anti-troll function, those posts to get someone to blow-up reply and then the troll deleting the post. Admins can hide these posts, often including the reply (and they keep it so if ever the troll returns to troll on, the admin has record/reference.) The red text warnings are for the rest self-explanatory... if the main body is blank, a post or edit cannot be saved, so if you've blurted nonsense, delete/strike out text and add a short comment such "Edit: Driveled again" ;o)))) --//-- [Edit 1 times, last edit by SekeRob* at Nov 10, 2017 10:39:04 AM] |

All right, SekeRob****, and thank you
- and I used *gone* instead of "Edit: Driveled again". Same effect. - but how to explain this one, where I had used used the "drivel trick"? Yesterday BladeD told me I could delete a post in the ”4 letter game” with lots of answers after it instead of editing the words out, and I was informed that it was only if there were quotations from my post that I could not delete. - not that it is terribly important, but it sort of short-circuits my logic. And indeed I could delete the post in question. ![]() |

Maybe you can quote the actual post by BladeD here rather than you paraphrasing what he said, so we can read without it being lost in translation.
BTW, try deleting your last post. I did not 'Reply' to that one. |

Here is a quote of what BladeD said:
Did it as well as I could. On any post of your, right next to the 'quote' option should be a 'delete post' option. The only time you can't delete you own post is like now when I quoted your post here. ![]() Indeed, I could. SekeRob**** says: Always thought all was locked once one had posted after you, but what you said makes sense. BTW, try deleting your last post. I did not 'Reply' to that one. I did, and yes, I could delete my above yours post if I wanted to. What do you mean by ”Reply”? And how did you reply without replying? – using reply button as opposed to ”Quick reply”? Still somewhat confused in Denmark - isn’t how they sign themselves in the ”Letters to *****” section of ladies' magazines? |

LM, if you can't delete a pots that you want to get rid of, replace the text with a blank (space bar). The body isn't empty and yet it is :-))

I agree, keithhenry, your spacebar, SekeRob****'s "I Driveled Again" or my own *gone*, no problem - they all fill the post field in a "required" way.
But what I don't understand at this point is: Why can I completely - without any trace of me having been there - delete posts in "4 letter game"? And in the same way be able to completely delete my post above SekeRob****'s post suggesting I tried deleting? And still be unable to erase my footprints here The colophone is still there. That post was not quoted and it was - and still is - younger than seven days, where there seems to be some invisible trap whacking - but then again: There are so many things mermaids don't understand but would like to know anyway ![]() Wouldn't you like to know, too? |

You seem not to understand the chain linking (see my first reply). Differently, any post that has someone else hit the Reply or (Reply with) Quote or Quick Reply buttons of THAT post, LOCKS that post's placeholder. Same applies for the "Quick reply to the post [554699, Re: Delete] ", which is the number of your last post above mine, always the last post in a thread.
----------------------------------------When you just hit any of the buttons on any other post than the one being responded to, e.g. the previous last post in the thread, then that last post remains removable. Now, since I hit a button on your last post to write this, you can no longer delete your post, but erase the content. The time to pass for editing a post is much longer... around 4 months IIRC. This allows to for instance mark the OP title with [RESOLVED], to close a thread off following a longer discussion). Once that is signalled in a support thread, no need to open again, lest you're the one to seek a solution on a specific problem. Now "Delete" as OP title is a meaningless a topic as can be, leaving everyone to guess what the thread is about, so I edited the title of my reply to give you a lead of what the topic could be described as. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by SekeRob* at Nov 11, 2017 10:08:20 AM] |

Pity the second 'Help' in the gray bar up top a forum page is gone, since it linked to some basil mvnForum help/explanation. Not bothered searching for it.

Okay, I'll need to read this - to me - complicated stuff a number of times.
I do think I always hit 'Quick reply' in '4 letter word game' before I go on to 'Preview' for decoration purposes and finally KLiK 'Reply to post'. Why don't I forget it and just say: 'I driveled again' when need be and thank you for giving the subject your best attention as always, SekeRob****? |
