Feature request: save unit progress at server and download it from another place

Hi.

Imho subject will be good option (exactly as option). Idea: you compute some units at home and when you go to work you switch computer off. At work you must take other units for calculation. But at home I can run tasks for 1-3 hours a day maximum and I do not complete computations before deadline. So why program can not upload intermediate result to the server and download by other client with the same user ID?

PS: sorry for poor english ^_^

Thnx.

This would require an enormous amount of recoding, not feasible. What you can do is put the BOINC installation on a USB drive and then when shutting down at home, take the drive to work and run boinc there,. There's security issues with USB drives and of course the need for permission to run boinc off the employer's computer.

edit: spellcheck

When you press "abort" button for unit results send to server. So this part almost done. Downloading mechanic exists in client too. I wonder why this feature was not added earlier.

USB-drive is not an option because user can have different OS [or CPU] on computers. (I have windows and linux)

Since BOINC is open source, maybe raise a development ticket over at Github, https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/issues

Infers you did it before my post, but it says '4 minutes ago' wink Anyway, that's the place where the 'in the know' volunteers will comment. WCG is primarily a user of the product.

Edit, before it's lost, the direct link to the ticket: https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/issues/2203

Edit2: Test to see how long a post can be edited.
