wolfman1360, thank you for your post, which was very interesting and gave a whole new perspective on who is doing this, and in your case what it takes.

I hope your post will be read by those who are able to further perfect the accessibility.
And I hope we will hear from you again smile

I don't plan on going anywhere.
As I said, though, the standard boinc client that allows you to pick and choose projects is perfectly, 100% accessible - as is the site itself.
If there was anything I might recommend to be changed, and it's a very minor complaint at that, is the device statistics and what not be moved into tables that can be navigated by a screen readers commands.
Honestly though I'm simply enjoying computing for science - I have quite a few here that generally do nothing but collect dust that have been given to me by others.

What really got me interested in helping was a friend passing at a young age - 33. It wasn't any of these diseases that killed him (He had this rare disease https://www.alstrom.org/what-is-alstrom/ ). So, while I'm not specifically fighting for his disease, I am at least, in my own small way, contributing.

Good.
And I hope the item you point out can be corrected to suit your needs.
Honestly though I'm simply enjoying computing for science ....

I agree, it feels good, and it feels good to see people around the world doing this and at the same time exchanging tricks, tips, and knowledge.
In another thread, you say:

I apologize if I'm posting new threads all over the place, though this has had me wondering a while.

Hey, that's what this is for, and that's what gives us all the chance to get wiser/cleverer/smarter and discuss matters. A little social life doesn't hurt either. So, please keep it up.
Anyway, curiosity killed the cat - or the wolf man, in this case ;).

Thank heaven for curiousity smile

EDIT: It struck me that posting a picture may be a lousy idea if your reader cannot explain it to you. The illustration above this edit shows the upper half of a head of a curious cat peeking over a fence while grabbing it firmly with her front paws.
So now it's my turn to be curious: Can your reader read a picture?

Re: Why are there so few users here?

Hi David, like many of us we are happy as clams and slogging away quietly. But I do wonder about how many really active contributors they're - certainly not 740K. Wouldn't it be nice if there would be stats showing that? Also, to have a search option to find out where one actually places among active contributors.

Hi Jim
I got the 740,000 figure from this official WCG page . But over at the BOINC stats page , they post figures of 532,000 users and 264,000 hosts. Obviously, there are a lot of discrepancies, but it is safe to say there are thousands of active users. So it is strange this forum has few users. Maybe its a good sign, most users have nothing to complain about!
Hi David
ha ha my name isn't David, my name is Glen. Strange, whenever I write my full name, people often run with my middle name. I guess its easier to remember because its more common.

You can sort of see your ranking, and who is active and who is not, if you do some searching on the boincstats.com page. I put your user name in and this is what came up (youre in the middle of the page, ranked number 2466 in the world and rising). But your true ranking would be higher still, as you will notice many contributors above and below you have zero credit added in the last month, so they are not really active, not in the last 30 days anyhow. If you click on the down arrow where it says credit per month, it gives rankings on the basis of recent contributions and the non-active members fall to the bottom.

Re: Why are there so few users here?

Actually there appears to be a lot less users when you use the Boincstats.com page and go back on the monthly totals (for WCG projects only) till you get to zero. On todays credit per month tally, the total points accrued runs to zero at user ranking number 55,495. So that might be an indication of the true number of active users. Pretty sad ain't it? When you consider there are zillions of idling computers and android phones that could be put to good use.

Re: Why are there so few users here?

just out of curiosity, I did the same check for users from my country, Australia. There are 6,020 users listed on the boincstats.com page, but credit per month runs to zero at user ranking 987. Considering Australia's population is over 24 million, thats a very low figure, a tiny fraction of a percentage point. WCG needs to be promoted more! God knows Ive tried, on Facebook and conversations with interested friends, but while many are summonsed, few rise to action... sadly. sad

Re: Why are there so few users here?

I wrote a long post about my life away since 2010 and finding about this site randomly through wiki....and asking how to help you recruit but I pressed the post reset button! haha give up! ;)

Question remains...an IBM project, that can help the world? Where is everyone?

You really have to ask them that question.

But, keep in mind some people don't like forums. wink

Re: Why are there so few users here?

There are probably a lot of crunchers that just want to crunch and do nothing else.
...I should know, I was one of them for over a year ;).

I came around here because I was curious if my hardware was acting comparatively well with others or if there were settings I needed to change and so here I be.
